Her Place
Studio IV
Her Place was a project based around a professor in the Design department, except the only information we were given was seemingly random: their favorite musician or furniture piece, or whether they preferred to be barefoot.
The space was to be designed for VR, so we were unfettered by the limits of gravity or reality. I took off and designed Her Space as this kaleidoscopic structure inspired by the architecture of Dr. Seuss and M.C. Escher- reality twists in this surrealist world where the walls become the floors, and the floors become the ceiling. All I knew about my selected professor is that she enjoyed painting, and having a fireplace nearby, but not near enough to warm her.
The concept of this space came from the technology of the aperture of a camera; while standing in the painting studio at one end, you can see further into the structure. It is not hostile, but playful as it encourages you to gain courage and explore while the grounding, familiar light of a fireplace is never far away.
