The Next Door
Studio III
This project was completed in partnership with a local rehabilitation center for women of all ages. We split our class into two “firms” of 7 students each, and within those groups we took on a few spaces across the center. We had to keep in mind the commercial nature of this facility, as well as potential triggers for women, and the company branding.
I was tasked with reimagining the stairwells, hallways, library, and conference room. I focused on wayfinding through pattern and color, and bringing light and joy into the space with whimsical forms. I was heavily inspired by fractals and other mathematical concepts, as well as the stories of addiction and recovery I learned while researching for this project.
We were prohibited from using drafting and modeling software, and the whole project was to be hand-drawn. I completed this project largely through digital drawing and painting software.
